The Birch Bay Quilt

The Birch Bay Quilt was made especially for my mother, Carol Sauer who lives in Birch Bay Washington. It was made for her Birthday/Mothers Day gift in April 1999. It took one month to make. This being my first quilted wall hanging, I started with a pattern that showed four deer at the bottom instead of the windows of water as shown. I was visiting my mother for a week during March and stumbled into the Calico Quilt Store in Mt. Vernon while my mom was at work. This is where I found the water, rock, and driftwood fabric. I took pictures of the bay and decided when I got home to use the bay in the four rectangles at the bottom. I was so pleased with how this quilt came out that I decided that I wanted to do this again. And so begins the birth of a quilter and later also a fiber artist. My mother was so overwelmed with suprise and joy at this her first quilted wall hanging.
