On July 1, 2000 I began working on The Deep as an uncommissioned work of art. It now belongs to my friend Elizabeth. The Deep depicts perspective, light, and movement in an ocean environment. From outerspace to the ocean deep, the light from above the water's surface finds it's way below the surface and the movement of the water is causing the sea kelp to move with it. In the blackness around the outline of the earth, one can see the galaxies and stars. The Deep is made with glass beads, 24 carot electroplate beads, genuine fresh water pearls, and the tiny fish are made from genuine abalone shell. I was inspired to make this as I was gazing at a very colorful glass paper weight. Shhh don't give away my secret.
